School of Arts & Sciences showcases undergraduate research at Student Symposium Apr. 18

The University of Richmond’s School of Arts & Sciences will host the 23rd Annual Arts & Sciences Student Symposium on Friday, April 18 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Modlin Center for the Arts. The Symposium celebrates student and faculty collaborative achievement in research and creativity.

256 undergraduate students will present their research and art. Students choose between presenting a poster, displaying artwork or giving oral presentations on their research topic.

Three poster sessions lasting one hour each will take place at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Approximately 40 posters will be presented in each session.

The artwork of seven studio art majors will be on display in the Modlin Center’s Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The students will present talks on their work from 3:00 to 4:10 p.m.

Six presentation rooms will feature rotating oral presentations throughout the afternoon. Presentations will range from “Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Distribution in Local Virginia Ferns” to “Global Health and Human Rights” to “Race Relations in Cuba: Looking Beyond the Lofty Ideals” to “From Minstrel Shows to MTV.” Presentations are scheduled according to topic:
