Fall 2008 Core Connections released

A liberal education may touch upon many different things, but it is typified by the underlying network of connections that students make between one course and another, between one subject and another and between what is learned in the classroom and what is done in other environments.

At the University of Richmond, Core 101-102 provides a common foundation for connection-making.  To help both current and former Core students recognize some of the potential connections they might wish to make in the coming semester, the Core faculty, working in conjunction with department chairpersons and program coordinators, has produced a list of courses that in one way or another can be seen as following up on Core.  These courses may deal with a Core topic or theme, highlight a Core author or text or simply reflect the kinds of issues and concerns associated with Core.

The Core faculty invites all their current and former students to review Core Connections prior to selecting and enrolling in courses for the fall 2008 semester.  They also want to remind students that important connections can and should be made outside the classroom, through lectures, concerts, shows and other events, both on and off campus.  Links to Web sites that provide information about events like these are listed at the end of Core Connections.
