English students, alumni read at Fresh Ink Literary Series' Chapbook Festival Apr. 19
University of Richmond English students Tim Henry and Devin Gymrek and English alumnus Thomas Gibney will read from their work at the Fresh Ink Literary Series’ Chapbook Festival at the Visual Arts Center on Sunday, April 19 from 1 to 5 p.m.
A chapbook is a term used to denote a low-cost, hard copy production of literary work. Poetry chapbooks typically focus on a specific theme, story or form, which unifies the book. The genre has been revitalized in the past 20 years, in large part because of the widespread availability of low-cost copy centers and the cultural revolutions spurred by both zines and poetry slams.
The Fresh Ink Literary Series is hosted by the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, the New Virginia Review, the Library of Virginia and Chop Suey Books. Other participating poets at the Chapbook Festival include: Sommer Browning, Julia Cohen, Kathy Davis, Rose Elliott, Julia Campbell Johnson, Melissa Johnson, Erin Lambert, Catherine MacDonald, Tony Mancus, Greg McBride, Shann Palmer, Nicholas Reading, Maggie Schwed, Mathias Svalina, Elisabeth Whitehead and Susan Williams.
Fresh Ink is supported in part by the Carole Weinstein Endowment for Creative Writing at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. The Visual Arts Center is located in Richmond’s historic Fan District at 1813 W. Main Street. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.
