Students attend Southeastern American Chemical Society Meeting
Twenty-six students and eight faculty members from the University of Richmond's chemistry department presented thirty scientific papers at the 219th American Chemical Society Southeastern Regional Meeting in Greenville, S.C. October 24th through 27th 2007.
Richmond's chemistry department prides itself on high-quality teaching and research. Students receive a strong background in chemistry in an environment of enthusiasm and support from an able and enthusiastic faculty. A significant number of students work side-by-side with faculty on cutting-edge externally funded research projects. Students enjoy the use of a wide variety of modern instrumentation both in their teaching laboratories and in their research. Many students are co-authors on peer-reviewed scientific publications and almost all students present their work at regional and national meetings. Since 2002 there have been more than 124 presentations by Richmond chemistry students at regional and national ACS meetings.
The American Chemical Society, based in Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit, scientific and educational organization and the largest scientific society in the world. Chartered by Congress, the ACS is a world leader in fostering chemical education and research. Its membership of nearly 160,000 chemists and chemical engineers is international.
