Roald Hoffmann will give chemistry department's 2008 Powell Lecture Feb. 8

Dr. Roald Hoffmann, the Frank H.T. Rhodes Professor of Humane Letters at Cornell University, will be the speaker for the Department of Chemistry’s annual Powell Lecture, jointly sponsored by the Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society and the University of Richmond. Dr. Hoffmann has received many of the honors of his profession, including the 1981 Nobel Prize in Chemistry (shared with Kenichi Fukui). He will present a lecture titled, “All the Ways to Have a Bond.”

The W. Allan Powell Lectureship in Chemistry has been held annually since 1988 and is hosted by the University of Richmond and the Virginia Section of the ACS. The Powell Lectureship was established to honor Dr. W. Allan Powell who served the University for 34 years, 23 of which he chaired the chemistry department.
