Egyptologist gives 2009 Stuart L. Wheeler Gallery Lecture Apr. 2

The Classics department presents the 2009 Stuart L. Wheeler Gallery Lecture. This year's lecturer is Egyptologist Robert Brier, who will give a talk, "Mummification: Resurrection of a Lost Art," on April 2 at 5:15 p.m. in Jepson 118. Brier is recognized as one of the world's foremost experts on mummies.

As Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Brier has conducted pioneering research in mummification practices and has investigated some of the world's most famous mummies, including King Tut, Vladimir Lenin, Ramses the Great, Eva Peron (Evita) and the Medici family of Renaissance Italy.

Affectionately known as "Mr. Mummy," Brier is the first person in 2,000 years to mummify a human cadaver using the exact techniques of the ancient Egyptians and will share his expertise on mummy preservation gained through experimental study.
