"When Souls Had Wings" Student-Faculty Colloquy Sept. 16
Date: Sep. 16, 2008
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location:
The Great Hall, Ryland Hall (located on the second floor, directly above classrooms 203-205)
Join Core professors Julie Laskaris (classical studies) and Terryl Givens (English) for an information conversation about what Plato can tell us about souls, sex and pre-mortal existence.
How do we know things that transcend or precede experience? How can we explain the power of sexual attraction? Can stories provide a reasonable basis for affirming the afterlife, or moral values? Students are invited to explore some of the mythologies Plato fashions to perform a wide variety of cultural work.
