VCU professor gives lecture on the female soldier in American culture

Dr. Laura Browder of Virginia Commonwealth University will give a talk entitled "When Janey Comes Marching Home: The Female Soldier in American Culture" on Monday, March 24 at 4 p.m. in Weinstein Hall's Brown-Alley Room.
 
Dr. Browder is the author of Her Best Shot: Women and Guns in America,  a cultural history of the female soldier in American popular culture from the Revolutionary Wars to the present. She is currently collaborating with photographer Sascha Pflaeging on When Janey Comes Marching Home:  Portraits of Women Combat Veterans, a series of 40 photographic portraits and oral histories of women combat veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, which will be on view at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond this fall.

The lecture is sponsored by the Department of English and is free and open to the public.
