Joe Kroger, B'80, Welcomes Daughter to UR

Joe Kroger B’80, chose the University of Richmond from its competitors for its football opportunities and never regretted his choice. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, concentrating in Finance. In 2012, Joe Kroger and his wife Sharon proudly walked their daughter, Megan Kroger, down the paths of the UR campus. Megan continues the family’s Richmond legacy as a sophomore transfer student from East Carolina University.

Megan spent her freshman year at East Carolina University, but has been a Spider-at-heart since childhood. Through many campus visits and experiences related to the University growing up, she never gave up on her dream of becoming a Spider.

Joe Kroger fondly remembers first arriving on the University of Richmond campus in the fall of 1976 when he briefly lived in Freeman Hall. To his surprise and excitement, his daughter will be living in Freeman Hall during her first year at the university.

“It has been Megan’s dream since early in her high school days to attend UR,” said Joe Kroger. “I have never seen a kid so determined and so committed to do whatever she needed to do to realize her dream. I could not be prouder of what she has accomplished.”

Throughout his time at the University of Richmond, Joe Kroger learned the value of engaging in a world larger than you and understanding what motivates people.

“It really adds to the richness of life when you can appreciate all that,” he says. “I trust that Megan will learn many life lessons throughout her experiences at UR just as I did.”

As an alumnus, Kroger is most impressed by the University’s increasing prestige. He continues to give back to the University of Richmond community by serving as an active member of the alumni community and leveraging his support to aid students, “because the students at UR today are going to go out and accomplish great things to help the world.”

The Kroger family’s relationship with the University of Richmond has a bright and deep future, especially now that Megan is a proud Spider!
