Everyone has his or her own definition of success when it comes to investing in the stock market. However, one common denominator central to every investor is the need for knowledge in order to make wise, informed investment decisions.

The Osher Investments Interest Group’s (OIIG) purpose is to develop and expand our understanding of investing and investments in order to make informed decisions consistent with our individual risk tolerance and financial goals.

We meet the third Friday of each month from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on the UR  campus (June, July and August excepted). The only requirement for admission is to be a current Osher member.

Our meetings follow a three-part format. Part 1 is the presentation of an investment topic of general interest. Part 2 consists of reviewing, discussing, and making changes, if appropriate, to our investment tracking portfolio. Part 3 involves the discussion of a contemporary financial issue or topic.  Each of our meetings are led by an OIIG member or by an invited guest presenter.

Starting with our September meeting, student managers from the University of Richmond Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) will be presenting at each of our meetings. The SMIF is a program for selected UR finance/business majors providing hands-on experience in managing a portion of the UR endowment on behalf of the university. Student managers will be sharing with the OIIG their approach to financial goals, risk analysis, investment strategies, investment analysis, investment selection and managing the SMIF.

If you would like to increase your knowledge of investing and investments, please consider coming to a meeting and become an OIIG member. Interested Osher members should contact the OIIG coordinator, Charlie Huffstetler via email: clh1146@verizon.net.
