Richmond Law prof spends sabbatical exploring international investment disputes

Professor Chiara Giorgetti will spend her sabbatical semester as Scholar-in-Residence at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes in Washington, D.C. Established in 1966, the ICSID is the only global institution dedicated to international investment dispute settlement. Professor Giorgetti is the second scholar to hold this position.

A renowned international law scholar, Professor Giorgetti has published extensively on the topics of international arbitration, public international law, and international courts and tribunals in the Colombia Journal of Transnational Law, the University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law, the Georgetown Journal of International Law, and the American Journal of International Law, amongst other venues.

As Scholar-in-Residence, Professor Giorgetti will focus on a number of special assignments with the ICSID Secretariat, including research on a possible Code of Conduct of Arbitrators, and a range of other research projects aimed at building knowledge and awareness of international investment dispute settlement.

“I am delighted to temporarily join ICSID as a scholar-in-residence,” said Giorgetti. “Given the ongoing reform process in investment arbitration, this seems to be a particularly timely and interesting moment to be at ICSID. I look forward to engage in its many activities, and in particular continue working on the development of a Code of Conduct.”
