Taiwanese Ambassador to speak at University of Richmond Apr. 3

Date: Apr. 3, 2008
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Location: Jepson Hall, Room 118

Dr. Joseph Wu, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office, will visit the University of Richmond on Thursday, April 3. He will give a talk, “Taiwan and the U.S.: Partners in Security, Prosperity and Democracy,” at 4:00 p.m. at Jepson Hall.

Taiwan plays a key role in global high-tech commerce, Chinese culture and U.S.-China relations. The future of Taiwan’s democracy is critical to U.S. policy in Asia.

In the absence of diplomatic relations, TECRO functions as Taiwan’s embassy in the U.S., and Representative Wu as Taiwan’s ambassador. Dr. Wu received his Ph.D. in political science from The Ohio State University. Before assuming his current post in April 2007, he served as the chairman of Mainland Affairs Council, a senior aide to President Chen Shui-bian and a professor at National Chengchi University—a UR exchange partner institution.

Co-sponsored by the University of Richmond's Department of Political Science and the World Affairs Council of Greater Richmond, this event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

For further information, contact Dr. Vincent Wang, chair of the Department of Political Science.
