Latin American and Iberian Studies Senior Research Symposium Apr. 16 and 17

On April 16 and 17, 2008, students and faculty in Latin American and Iberian studies will celebrate the accomplishments of the department’s 41 graduating seniors.

This year’s third annual LAIS Senior Research Symposium will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 with a guest lecture by Professor Enric Bou, Chair of Hispanic Studies at Brown University, who will speak on the painting and literature of Salvador Dalí. The talk, which is entitled "Dalí: pintura secreta, escritura oculta," will take place in Jepson 118.

The Symposium will continue on Thursday, April 17 in Tyler Haynes Commons with 10 sessions held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Research topics cover a variety of areas that include the image of family and nation in contemporary Spanish cinema, the poetry of Pablo Neruda and Nicolás Guillén and the experience of a contemporary pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago.

Partial funding for this program is provided by the Cultural Affairs Committee of the University of Richmond and the Institut Ramon Llull.
