Scholars Latino Initiative seeks UR students to serve as mentors to high school students
The Scholars Latino Initiative is recruiting rising sophomores at the University of Richmond, along with other UR students, to volunteer for a high school mentorship program that serves youth in three high schools in the greater Richmond area.
SLI-VA is an extension of the Scholars Latino Initiative. The program provides high school students—many newcomers to the United States—with opportunities for public service, cultural enrichment programs, skills development sessions, and an early college class. Participants are selected as high school sophomores by their teachers on the basis of determination and promise. For three years, SLI high school students are paired with University of Richmond undergraduate mentors who encourage, counsel, and prepare them to compete for admission to and aid at the colleges of their choice.
SLI is looking for rising University of Richmond sophomores to serve as mentors to the program's participants. Other UR students who are interested in assisting with programming and advising are also encouraged to participate.
