Students compete in mathematical modeling contest

Each year, the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP) hosts a modeling contest in which teams of undergraduates use mathematical modeling to present their solutions to real world problems. The contest challenges student teams to clarify, analyze and propose solutions to open-ended problems. It attracts diverse students and faculty advisors from over 500 institutions around the world.

The weekend-long contest takes place in early February of each year. Richmond sends a team of three students who devote the entire week-end (night and day) to tackling and attempting to solve the problems in the allocated amount of time.

Contest results are received in early spring and are posted on the window outside of the department Office, Jepson 212.
