Five Richmond ROTC students to be commissioned May 10

The University of Richmond Army Officer Commissioning Ceremony will be held at Cannon Memorial Chapel on May 10, 2008 at 11 a.m.  

The University of Richmond has a nationally recognized Army ROTC program and is the host program for five additional colleges in central Virginia – Virginia Commonwealth University, Randolph-Macon College, Longwood University, Hampden-Sydney College and Virginia Union University.  

The University of Richmond’s five ROTC graduates will be joined at the Commissioning Ceremony by four Virginia Commonwealth University graduates. The ceremony celebrates four years of officer training as the candidates receive their Presidential Appointment Orders, take the Oath of Office, have their Second Lieutenant bars pinned by family members and receive their first salute from an NCO.
 
Retired four-star Gen. John W. Foss, former commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, the 18th Airborne Corps and the US Army Training and Doctrine Command will speak at the ceremony. The Department of Military Science and Leadership Cadre, Dean Newcomb, President Ayers and other distinguished faculty leadership from both universities will be in attendance to celebrate the hard work, dedication and selflessness of these young leaders.  
 
No RSVP required. Attire is casual. Please be seated by 10:50 a.m.
