Richmond's ROTC program named top five in country for meeting commissioning goals since 2000
The University of Richmond is one of five universities in the United States to be recognized by the U.S. Army Cadet Command for having met its ROTC officer commissioning mission numbers every year since 2000.
Since Cadet Command’s Operations Analysis Division began tracking commissioning numbers in 2000, only the University of Richmond, Austin Peay State University, Western Illinois University, Gonzaga University and Weber State University have annually met or exceeded their commission goals.
The University of Richmond’s ROTC program began tracking commissioning numbers long before 2000. Program records reflect that Richmond’s Spider Battalion has met or surpassed its commission goals for the last 16 years.
“In our nation’s protracted period of conflict, it is imperative that our pre-commissioning program provide intelligent, flexible and adaptive leaders, in the right numbers, to expertly lead our soldiers and NCOs,” said LTC Doug Gillem, chair of the University’s Department of Military Science and Leadership. “We are on track to make our commissioning numbers for the 17th straight year next year.”
