Date: Apr. 10, 2008
Time: 6:35 p.m.
Location: Jepson Hall, Room 120

Pete Earley, the author of Crazy: A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness and a 2007 Pulitzer Prize finalist for general non-fiction, will speak on Thursday, April 10 at 6:35 p.m. in Jepson Hall.

When his son was declared mentally ill, Earley, an investigative journalist and the New York Times bestselling author of The Hot House, jumped head-first into America's mental health system. In the process, he spent a year investigating the Miami-Dade County jail and connecting the dots between America's mental health crisis and the country's prisons, which he realized were quickly becoming mental hospitals.

Earley was appointed to serve on the Virginia criminal justice task force by Supreme Court Justice Leroy Hassell, Sr. He is tasked with reviewing and making recommendations about Virginia's mental health laws.

The talk is jointly sponsored by the Central Virginia chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Health and the University of Richmond. Contact either Catherine Bagwell or Rick Mayes with questions.
