Emergency management program chair Harris named to local board of trustees

December 20, 2011

Dr. Wallace “Bo” Harris, chair of the Emergency Management program in the School of Professional & Continuing Studies, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the City of Richmond Retirement System. The appointment lasts through October 24, 2014.

Harris was appointed to the board by the Richmond City Council, which selects five of seven board members. As a member of the Board, Harris will help oversee the management of the city’s retirement system for public employees.

The majority of Harris’ professional experience came at the Virginia Retirement System, where he worked in several positions including Deputy Director. He has been engaged in state and local government for much of the professional career.

Harris chairs the emergency management program, which has been re-initiated effective fall 2012. The on-campus bachelor’s degree program prepares graduates to enter the fields of emergency management, business continuity, disaster planning and recovery, and other related fields.
