February 16 Procter & Gamble executive says innovation is key (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

February 16, 2012

Global consumer products giant Procter & Gamble — maker of household brands that include Tide, Charmin, Gillette and Old Spice — is about to celebrate its 175th anniversary.

That kind of longevity comes only through a constant focus on innovation, a P&G executive told students, faculty and other guests at the University of Richmond's Robins School of Business Wednesday evening.

"That's because we believe innovation plays a key role in everything we do," said Melanie Healey, the president of P&G's North America group. "Innovation is the primary way that we touch and improve consumer's lives."

Healey, a 1983 graduate of the University of Richmond and a member of the school's board of trustees, spoke as part of the Robins School's executive speaker series.
