Symphony orchestra director to conduct youth harp group at Carnegie Hall

February 27, 2012

Alexander Kordzaia, University of Richmond’s symphony orchestra director, will conduct the American Youth Harp Ensemble at a sold-out show at Carnegie Hall in New York on March 4.

The local group has performed two preview concerts in Richmond in recent weeks and will also perform in Washington D.C., and New Jersey in addition to Carnegie Hall.

Kordzaia’s wife, Lynnelle Ediger-Kordzaia, is the director of the group. A few years ago Kordzaia was involved with the ensemble on its European tour, and this year Lynnelle asked him to work with them on their Carnegie Hall concert repertoire.

“This will be third time the American Youth Harp Ensemble will perform in Carnegie Hall,” Kordzaia said. “The last two times I was in the audience, this time I'm looking forward to be on stage with them.”

CBS6 recently featured one of the group’s preview concerts.
