University of Richmond freshman receives grant to improve sanitary conditions in Pune City, India

Aarti Reddy, a University of Richmond freshman from Bangalore, India, has received a Davis Projects for Peace grant to launch a sanitation facility pilot program in Pune City, India. The project will focus on neighborhoods with significant health concerns caused by little or no access to toilet facilities.
Reddy’s plan will provide some 2,000 low-income individuals with access to pay-per-use bathroom facilities and include promoting the use of the facilities and ensuring their financial and environmental sustainability.
If successful, the project will be a model for similar facilities in other areas of India. Reddy’s project is one of 90 to receive funds from Davis Projects for Peace, an organization which funds undergraduates’ proposals for summer community service work.
Reddy graduated from high school at Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong. He is the son of Amarnath and Jyoti Reddy of Bangalore.
