Dr. Daniel Roberts, liberal arts program chair, to co-author textbook for international students

April 18, 2012

Dr. Daniel M. Roberts Jr., associate professor and program chair of liberal arts in the School of Professional & Continuing Studies, will co-write, with Dr. Nuray Grove of Richmond and Dr. Aylin Graves of Middle East Technical Institute, a textbook for international students.

The textbook, titled A Moment in Time for English Language Learners: A Cultural Journey into English combine historical narrative, audio, intonation practice, vocabulary, exercises and testing.

Roberts is executive producer and host of A Moment in Time, the award-winning public radio program that has recently entered its 19th year of broadcast.

Grove is director of the University’s English as a Second Language program and co-director of the Self-Directed Language Acquisition program.

Graves is chair of the Department of Modern Languages at Middle East Technical Institute in Ankara, Turkey.

The writing team members bring to the project disparate areas of expertise that are uniquely combined: Roberts brings his historical research along with his work on the radio program A Moment in Time; Grove brings her experience and research in language acquisition and instruction; and Graves brings her international perspective and research in second language writing and cultural education.

The text represents the School’s first internationally-published volume that is both cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural.
