May 2, 2012

The 2013 School of Professional & Continuing Studies spring break study abroad course, Rise and Fall of the Celtic Tiger, has been awarded a curriculum internationalization grant of $2,000 from the University of Richmond Office of International Education.

Dr. Patricia Strait, program chair and associate professor of human resource management, and Gretchen Flynn Morris, human resource management program coordinator, submitted the grant application for HRM 398U and HRM 598U: The Rise and Fall of the Celtic Tiger, a spring 2013 course that includes a week-long study abroad component in Cork, Ireland.

The internationalization grant awarded $2,000 for curriculum and program development.

The Rise of the Celtic Tiger will be the third spring break study abroad program offered by the School that is developed specifically for working professionals. The course combines an in-class/online hybrid experience throughout the spring 2013 semester with the travel and study experience in Ireland.

The course explores the rise and fall of Ireland through an historical, social and economic framework. The variables which led to Ireland’s rapid rise and more recently to its rapid decline will be investigated along with the impact these events have had on the economy, labor market, society and population of Ireland.

The Office of International Education offers grants for the development of new courses with significant international content and for revisions of existing courses, adding international content to them.
