Jepson School welcomes four faculty members

The Jepson School welcomed four faculty members into its ranks this fall, including a Fulbright scholar. Historian Julian Hayter, political theorist Javier Hidalgo, philosopher and ethicist Jessica Flanigan, and management expert Dejun (Tony) Kong joined the School as assistant professors. They fill positions left by faculty members who have recently retired or taken a new appointment.

Jessica Flanigan – Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies and Politics, Philosophy, Economics, and Law (PPEL)

A visiting scholar at Brown University prior to joining the Jepson School, Flanigan’s research interests include the ethics of business and medicine, law, and public policy. She will teach courses such as Ethical Decision Making in Healthcare, Leadership Ethics, and Critical Thinking.

Julian Hayter Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies

A historian, Hayter’s research focuses on African American politics in Richmond, Virginia, within the broader context of modern African American history, American political development after 1945, the American civil rights movement, and African American history since the Civil War. He will teach courses such as Justice and Civil Society and Richmond and the Politics of Leadership: 1865 to the Present.

Javier Hidalgo – Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies

A Fulbright scholar, his research centers on the ethical and public policy questions related to Mexican immigration in the United States, the morality of the market, and democratic theory. He will teach courses such as Leadership and the Humanities and Leadership Ethics, and advanced courses on issues of leadership and diversity. His dissertation was a finalist for the 2012 American Political Science Association Best Dissertation Award in the field of Human Rights.

Dejun (Tony) Kong – Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies and Management

Kong holds a joint appointment in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies and the University's Robins School of Business. His research focuses on negotiation and conflict management, cross-cultural management, trust and risk, and emotions and emotion regulation. He will teach courses such as Conflict Resolution and Theories and Models of Leadership.
