Visiting art faculty member recognized for outstanding short film

December 4, 2012

On November 30, Sandro Del Rosario was awarded first prize in the James River Shorts Festival for his short film L.City.

The James River Shorts, sponsored by the James River Film Society, is a mini-festival devoted to the short. The centerpiece is a juried competition for short films (30 minutes or less) from around the globe that best embody what the James River Film Society and James River Film Festival are all about – the art of film and film as art.

L.City was previously awarded the Kodak Prize for Best Cinematography at the Siena International Shortfilm Festival, among other honors, and is published in a DVD compilation with work by Abbas Kiarostami, Takeshi Kitano and Joyce Carol Oates.

Born in Italy, Del Rosario is an animation and media artist whose personal work is inspired by places, feelings, and memories. His art has been exhibited worldwide, including MOMA, the London Film Festival, and the Annecy Animation Festival.

As part of his year-long visiting faculty position, Del Rosario is teaching special topics courses for the Department of Art and Art History on fine art animation, video projections and installations, and sound, video, and animation.
