May 9, 2013

During the School of Professional and Continuing Studies Fiftieth Anniversary SPCS Night honors and awards ceremony on May 8, 2013, Dean James L. Narduzzi named the student, faculty and alumni speakers for the School’s May 11 Commencement Exercises.

Mark H. Troemel, earning a Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) degree, was named student speaker. Troemel was named student speaker as the SPCS graduating student who has earned the highest grade point average as of the end of the fall 2012 semester.

Gerald Lee Quirk, adjunct assistant professor of liberal arts, was named the faculty speaker. Quirk was named faculty speaker as the recipient of the Itzkowitz Family Distinguished Faculty Award, an honor earned by vote of the SPCS student body.

Thomas W. Winfree, president and chief executive officer of Village Bank, was named the alumni speaker. Winfree is a 1977 graduate of University College, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Winfree serves SPCS as a member of the dean’s advisory council.

In addition to its traditional lineup of student, faculty and alumni speakers, the School invited Dr. Edward L. Ayers, president of the University of Richmond, to reflect with graduates on the history and future of the School. As the culminating event of the School’s year-long fiftieth anniversary celebration, Commencement represents an opportunity to reflect on the School’s history and to shape a vision for its future.

SPCS Commencement Exercises are held in the Robins Center on the University of Richmond campus at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11. The event will be covered on Twitter using hashtag #spcsgrad.
