Bells at Boatwright Live!

April 9, 2014

April 14 - 19
Monday–Friday: 5 p.m., Boatwright Tower

Saturday: 5 p.m., Byrd Park Carillon

Listen each day to a unique, four-minute composition played by Martín Bonadeo, visiting assistant professor in Latin American and Iberian Studies. Carillón de viento — wind chimes — aims to connect people through the sense of hearing. Each day’s unique piece represents a soundification created from local wind patterns. Bonadeo will compose the music about an hour before each performance, using wind measurements taken during the previous 24 hours at Richmond International Airport. Bonadeo sees college campuses as the perfect outlet for this form of public art because there is such a large congregation of people from different places gathered here. “In those moments, everyone is connected” he said.

On Sat. April 19, he’ll play special sixth performance at 5 p.m. from the Byrd Park Carillon.
