New scheduling option offers back-to-back hybrid Saturday classes for SPCS undergraduates

June 19, 2014

The School of Professional and Continuing Studies is rolling out a new scheduling option for courses required in Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies (BSPS) majors: Two hybrid classes with only eight back-to-back class sessions on Saturdays along with online components.

Two classes from the BSPS Professional Core are being offered in this new schedule for fall 2014: LDSP 368U Leadership in the Global Environment, offered 9-11:45 a.m., and HUM 300U Applied Ethics, offered 1:20-4 p.m. The classes will be offered back-to-back, providing time to grab lunch or catch up on reading and research, on eight Saturdays during the semester.

  • September 6, 13 & 27
  • October 11 & 25
  • November 8 & 22
  • December 6

Both hybrid courses are three semester hours each and include required online assignments each week.

This new scheduling option provides several advantages for students. First, it reduces the total number of visits to campus for class, just once per week for eight weeks as opposed to twice per week for 15 weeks for a typical semester and non-hybrid class. Second, it allows students to keep their weeknights free for work, personal commitments and studying. It alleviates potential scheduling conflicts of required courses during the week. It also allows students the option to add an additional class to their schedule during the week and still minimize visits to campus.

Both courses are required for the undergraduate human resource management, information security, IT management and paralegal studies majors in the BSPS program. If you have questions, please contact your academic advisor.
