University of Chicago Divinity School names Jepson professor Peter Iver Kaufman Alumnus of the Year for 2016

The University of Chicago Divinity School has named Peter Iver Kaufman Alumnus of the Year for 2016.

Kaufman holds the George Matthews & Virginia Brinkley Modlin Chair in Leadership Studies in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond. He is professor emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  

In the Jepson School, he teaches courses such as Leadership and the Humanities and Justice and Civil Society, as well as advanced courses on political, cultural, and religious leaders in late antiquity and early modern Europe.

He has written eight books and more than 40 articles on authority, religious conflict, and literary history. He has also edited books on charisma, leadership and Elizabethan culture, and more. He is editor-in-chief of Religions.  

Since coming to the University of Richmond in 2008, he has received Richmond College’s “Outstanding Teacher” award and the University’s Distinguished Educator Award.

He will deliver a keynote address and Craft of Teaching seminar for the Divinity School.
