SPCS student, graduate honored during Richmond Paralegal Association annual meeting

November 23, 2015

Two members of the SPCS student community — Darlene Yeary, C’11, and Christie Good, current student earning an undergraduate certificate in Paralegal Studies — were honored at the 2015 Richmond Paralegal Association (RPA) Annual Meeting and Paralegal Week Reception.

Good, a student in the Paralegal Studies Certificate in Applied Studies program, was awarded the Jean H. Proffitt and Susan Brewer, Esq. Scholarship.

Yeary, a 2011 SPCS graduate who majored in Paralegal Studies, received the RPA Outstanding Paralegal of the Year award.

The Jean H. Proffitt and Susan Brewer, Esq. Scholarship Fund was established by the RPA to assist Richmond metro paralegal students with tuition and text book costs. The award is based on merit and whether the applicant demonstrates a dedication to the program and will likely succeed and become a contributing member of the paralegal profession and legal community. The RPA Scholarship Committee (a subcommittee of the RPA Education Committee) selects the scholarship winner. The Fund is named, in part, for a long-time SPCS student advisor and staff member, Jean H. Proffitt.

The Outstanding Paralegal of the Year award recognizes an outstanding paralegal who has made significant contributions to the development of the paralegal profession in the Richmond metro area within the last 12 months, nominated from among RPA members. Winners must have performed six (6) hours of service on behalf of the paralegal profession and/or attended six (6) RPA events per year, and must demonstrate high ethical standards. Employers are included among those providing letters of support and other documentation for consideration.
