Graduate education student named VACTE scholarship recipient

February 19, 2016

John Drake “Bucka” Watson III, a graduate student in the SPCS Teacher Licensure Preparation program and a fall 2015 student teacher, was awarded a Virginia Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (VACTE) scholarship this past fall.

This highly competitive scholarship is given annually to a full-time student pursuing teacher licensure who shows “outstanding teaching potential.” According to Dr. Thelma Wheeler, Director of Field Placement, this considerable honor reflects Watson’s “... passion for people (in how he speaks with others, plans lessons, and delivers instruction), belief in his students, and considerate ways in which he instills ownership and accountability in his students.”

Watson will be honored in March at the VACTE Spring Conference
