Whether you are in the Teacher Licensure Program, Curriculum & Instruction M.Ed. Program, or the Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Program, it is important to stay abreast of the hot topics according to our local school divisions.

Even after you complete your program at University of Richmond, we hope that you will continue to stay connected to the university and participate in the timely and relevant professional development coursework we offer for practicing teachers and administrators.

The professional development we offer provides points towards your teacher recertification, a process which must be completed every five years after receiving your initial license.

Professional development offered at the University of Richmond is based on annual feedback from eight local school divisions and captures the current hot topics for those divisions. Based on this year’s dialogue and feedback from our local school divisions, here are the top ten areas of interest for professional development:

  • ESL endorsement/coursework
  • Gifted endorsement/coursework
  • Best practice/strategies for classroom teachers with mixed student populations of English language learners, gifted students, and students with learning disabilities
  • Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports
  • Project Based Learning
  • Trauma informed care
  • Family & community connections
  • Coaching/Mentoring training
  • Training/Leadership skills for rising school leaders; IEP training for assistant principals
  • Training related to special education (IEP Implementation, Dyslexia, and Autism specifically)

As you continue your path in the field of Education, hold on to being a life-long learner!  Join us for future professional development related to these important areas of interest.
