September 9: Tesla Richmond Dealership Request May Be Denied (NPR)

A DMV hearing officer has recommended that the agency reject a request from Tesla Motors, Inc. to open a company owned dealership for its battery powered cars in the Richmond area. Virginia law forbids manufacturer owned dealerships in most circumstances but Tesla insists no independent Richmond dealer is capable of profitably selling the battery powered cars.

Univ. of Richmond auto economics expert George Hoffer noted that Tesla was granted an exception last year in northern Virginia. He doesn’t expect Tesla to stop trying.
