National, state and local retail experts predict a solid 2016 holiday shopping season. As in past years, many big stores will open on Thanksgiving Day. More than in past years, online merchants have been getting an early start: They began pushing their wares through email and social media long before anyone had started thinking about turkey dinners, let alone Christmas trees.
