Overwhelming support for SPCS shown during UR Here Giving Day

June 16, 2020

The School of Professional & Continuing Studies community demonstrated overwhelming support for the school during last month’s UR Here Giving Day, raising $38,766 from 179 contributors during the 36-hour event.

UR Here Giving Day was held from noon on May 27 through the end of the day on May 28. The University-wide giving day, postponed in response to the coronavirus pandemic from its original date in April, engaged over 4,200 donors in raising over $1.6M in support of Academics, Athletics, Student Life, Well-Being and Greatest Needs.

Grateful doesn’t begin to express the school’s appreciation for all of our SPCS community who contributed to this remarkable show of support.

By the numbers

  • By surpassing the 100 donor level, you unlocked the Dean’s Ambassadors Circle’s DAC Challenge gift of $11,000.
  • By giving during the SPCS Alumni Association Board Happy Hour Challenge, you matched gifts to unlock $1,485 from the Alumni Board.
  • Through the efforts of two friends of the School, the Richmond Association of Phi Beta Kappa donated $13,500 to the SPCS Annual Fund to support student scholarships.

As the school and university continue to respond to challenges related to the global pandemic, funds given to SPCS will enable the school to continue meeting the unique needs of adult learners in the Richmond region through scholarships and programming support.

As a result of long-standing stewardship of gifts combined with your recent generous outpouring of support, we anticipate giving over $160,000 in scholarships to degree-seeking students for the 2020-2021 academic year. We also are providing free and low-cost (look for career-curious & enrichment classes) online professional education courses to those in the Richmond region seeking to reskill in response to the challenging job market.
