School of Continuing Studies (SCS) professors Porcher Taylor and Patricia Strait recently earned promotions following successful completion of the rigorous promotion process.

The Board of Trustees approved these promotions, recommended by the Provost, at its recent February 2011 meeting.

Porcher L. Taylor III, J.D., chair of the Paralegal Studies program, earned promotion from associate professor to professor. Taylor is the first full-time SCS faculty member to attain this highest academic rank of teaching faculty.

Dr. Patricia B. Strait, chair of the Human Resource Management program, earned promotion from assistant professor to associate professor.

The process requires candidates for promotion to document excellence in teaching, scholarly publishing, community and university service, and program development.

A committee of peers—including representatives from the Schools of Arts & Sciences, Business, Continuing Studies, Leadership Studies, and Law—reviewed the candidates’ portfolios and recommended promotion to Dean Narduzzi, who in turn presented his own recommendation with that of the Promotion Committee to the University provost.
