Philosophy professor wins 2007 AILACT Essay Prize

Philosophy professor Geoff Goddu was recently named the winner of the 2007 Association for Informal Logic and Critical Thinking Essay Prize.

Goddu's essay “What is a ‘Real’ Argument?” was selected by a jury composed of Michael Scriven of Claremont Graduate University, David Hitchcock of McMaster University and Harvey Siegel of University of Miami. The prize includes an award of $500.

The AILACT Essay Prize was inaugurated in August 2003. Entrants are not limited by topic, and essays may have been previously published. Past winners of the prize are Tom Solon, David Sherry and Marcello Guarini.

The Association for Informal Logic and Critical Thinking was founded in 1983 to promote research, teaching and testing of informal logic and critical thinking. It sponsors programs in conjunction with the American Philosophical Association and the Canadian Philosophical Association.
