Three physics students win academic awards
Three physics students were recognized by the School of Arts & Sciences and Department of Physics for their academic achievements during the 2007-2008 academic year.
Senior Peter Manchev won the 2008 David C. Evans Award for Outstanding Achievement in Scholarship, one of only two students in the School of Arts & Sciences to win the prestigious award. Manchev conducted research under physics professor Mirela Fetea and was part of a larger collaborative project between the University of Richmond and Wright Nuclear Structure Laboratory at Yale University.
Senior Nathaniel Lawrence won the 2008 Robert Edward Loving Award in Physics. Established in 1954 by the University of Richmond Chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, this award is given annually to a graduating senior on the basis of general academic achievement and promise for advanced study in physics. Lawrence conducted research under physics professor Matt Trawick.
Senior Brian Salmons won the 2008 Jackson J. Taylor Best Senior Seminar in Physics Award. Established by the Taylor and Hesch children in 1989 to honor Jackson Johnson Taylor, Professor of Physics from 1948–1986, this award recognizes the student judged by the faculty of the Department of Physics to have presented the best senior seminar. Salmons conducted research under physics professor Matt Trawick.
