Pre-Law Program teams up with Center for Civic Engagement to provide transportation to Minority Pre-Law Conference

Date: Jan. 23, 2008
Time: 6:00 a.m.
Location: George Mason School of Law

Minority students at Richmond who are considering law school and careers in the law are encouraged to participate in the 2008 Minority Pre-Law Conference sponsored by the Virginia State Bar and George Mason University School of Law.

Students will learn about various careers in the law from practicing attorneys, meet with judges and tour courtrooms, learn about the law school admission process, sit in on mock law school classes, meet and talk with current law students and take sample LSATS, learning about the test and ways to prepare for it. The conference’s programmatic focus is on the unique challenges and opportunities available to minority students interested in the field.

The University of Richmond’s Center for Civic Engagement, in conjunction with the Virginia State Bar, is providing free transportation to and from the conference. A van will leave the faculty parking lot behind the Commons at 6 a.m. on Saturday, January 23 and return at approximately 9 p.m. Students should contact Mark McGarvie, Richmond’s pre-law advisor, for more information or to register for both the conference and a seat in the van.

Some funding for lodging is available for students who would like to drive to the conference on Friday in order to participate in both the Friday and Saturday programming. Friday’s programming includes the sample LSAT at 2 p.m. and an evening reception for all attendees sponsored by the Virginia State Bar.
