Psychology alumna Martha Mock, '89, receives distinguished service award for dedication and service to people with special needs and disabilities

University of Richmond alumna and psychology major Martha Mock, ’89, received EP Communications’ Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award for her dedication and service to improving the lives of people with special needs and disabilities. Mock was honored on Disability Awareness Night, June 20, 2009, at the Rochester Red Wings’ Frontier Field.

This national award, named after the founder and former editor-in-chief of Exceptional Parent magazine, is awarded to an individual who has displayed remarkable accomplishments in the care and advocacy of individuals with disabilities, their families, and caregivers.

Mock, who is an assistant professor at the University of Rochester with joint appointments in the Warner School of Education and the Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics, is the director of the Institute for Innovative Transition.

Mock has 20 years experience working with children with disabilities and their families. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Rochester, Mock worked in early childhood classrooms and home-based settings for Virginia Public Schools and worked for the University of Wisconsin at Madison, in early childhood special education teacher preparation and transition for youth with disabilities.
