Business School to host five executives for 2011-12 speaker series

A Federal Reserve governor, one of Fortune Magazine’s “50 most powerful people,” and the CEO of McCartney Music and Multimedia Inc. are among the speakers for the 2011-12 Robins Executive Speaker Series at the University of Richmond.

Funded in part by a grant from the Manville Foundation for Private Enterprise, each event in the series features a 6 p.m. public lecture, followed by a reception. An invitation-only roundtable precedes each lecture at 4:30 p.m.

Speakers will discuss the economy, leadership culture, challenges facing the print media industry, and the digital world. The series opens Oct. 6 with Paul Queally, co-president of Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe. A 1986 Richmond graduate, Queally will moderate a panel discussion by Wall Street executives to include questions from the audience on the state of the U.S. financial climate.

Other speakers include:

  • Frank Batten, chairman and CEO, Landmark Media Enterprise, Nov. 3. Batten will speak about the challenges of the print media industry, as well as the sale of the Weather Channel, his investment in Red Hat and values-based leadership culture.
  • Elizabeth Duke, member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Jan. 16. Duke will explain her progression from a community banker to her current position, offering insight into today’s economy.
  • Melanie Healey, group president at Proctor & Gamble Co., Feb 15. One of Fortune’s “50 most powerful people,” Healey will speak on her career, Proctor & Gamble and her perspective on leadership.
  • Ruth McCartney, CEO of McCartney Music and Multimedia Inc., March 28. McCartney will discuss her start in the multimedia field managing The Beatles’ fan mail, current social media strategies, new source codes systems and warnings about the digital world.
