Two choirs highlight Candlelight Service Dec. 4

October 19, 2011

University of Richmond’s Office of the Chaplaincy, in partnership with the Department of Music, will hold the 38th Annual Candlelight Services of Lessons and Carols on Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Cannon Memorial Chapel on campus.

The University’s Schola Cantorum and Women’s Chorale will perform new and familiar Christmas carols and anthems in the tradition of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols first held at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England, on Christmas Eve 1918. Prelude music will be performed beginning 20 minutes before the start of each service.

The Rev. Craig Kocher, university chaplain, will lead the services, which will conclude with the traditional lighting of candles by the congregation and the singing of “Silent Night.”

Admission is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact the Office of the Chaplaincy at 804-289-8500.
