The University of Richmond men’s lacrosse club is the newest member of the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA). MCLA approved Richmond’s membership at its fall conference. Richmond will compete in the SELC’s Northeastern bracket, with Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Tennessee and the University of Kentucky.

Doug Horn, SELC president, said “The [SELC] is excited to have the University of Richmond become a member of our 20-team Division I. This program brings with it a solid track record of success that will help raise the level of competition of all member teams.”

The Spiders are the smallest team in the division. Glenn Carter, head lacrosse coach, said support from the university’s administration and alumni, along with the lacrosse talent present in incoming classes, enabled Richmond to join the division despite its size.

“We are extremely proud to be the newest member of the MCLA Division I,” said Carter. “The goal of the team this season is to make the SELC playoffs and vie for a possible bid to the national tournament.”
