Admission applications top 10,000

January 27, 2012

University of Richmond has received more than 10,000 applications for 765 seats in its freshman class entering next fall.

The number breaks last year’s record of 9,461 and continues a series of annual increases throughout most of the previous decade.

The 10,000th applicant, Linh Vu of Hagerstown, Md., a high school senior at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, says she applied because of Richmond’s reputation for academic excellence, generous need-based financial aid, and campus beauty.

Vu says that she first heard about Richmond from high school classmates, who told her the university is conveniently located near a city, has a beautiful campus, and “gives students the competitive advantage they need to succeed.”

As of the university’s Jan. 15 application deadline, Richmond had received 10,121 applications.
