A cappella group The Octaves have track selected for compilation album, 'Voices Only 2012'

August 14, 2012

The University of Richmond’s all-male a cappella group, The Octaves, is featured on a two-disc album showcasing the best a cappella tracks released by collegiate groups from around the world.

The Octaves track, “The Show Goes On” as performed by Lupe Fiasco, is featured on “Voices Only 2012.” Produced by acclaimed a cappella performer, arranger, reviewer, writer, judge and producer Corey Slutsky, a new “Voices Only” album has been released each fall since 2005 and includes songs recorded, mastered or released during the previous year. Songs are chosen for a variety of reasons, including featured soloists, production excellence, arrangements and more. The 2012 album is available on iTunes.

“This honor is not just about us, but is a testament to the amazing university we are a part of. We wouldn't be able to be doing what we are doing without the university, and we represent Richmond in everything we do,” said Jared Feinman, the group’s music director.

Last year, "The Show Goes On" was featured on “The Voice Box” on WUNH, New Hampshire's only exclusively a cappella radio broadcast. In addition, the weekly a cappella podcast show, “Mouth Off,” has featured "The Show Goes On" as part of its "Around the Horn" segment.

"The Show Goes On" was recorded by Mike Korch and The Octaves in the music technology lab at the university. It was co-arranged by Eric Rudofker and Nic Dacey, both university alumni. Bennie DeSalvo, a Richmond junior, is the featured soloist, with additional vocals by Rudofker. Edited by James Cannon, "The Show Goes On" was mixed and mastered by Dave Sperandio of Diovoce.

The Octaves have recorded 10 albums since forming in 1990 and perform on campus and throughout the East Coast. Their most recent four albums are available on iTunes at http://tinyurl.com/9hwe88h, and the group will be releasing a new album next spring.
