NBC to originate Sunday "Today" and "Nightly News" from campus Oct. 28

October 26, 2012

NBC television network will broadcast both “Today” and “Nightly News” live from University of Richmond Oct. 28.

Lester Holt will host and anchor the programs, which are expected to include interviews with local undecided presidential election voters and feature stories about the greater Richmond area.

"Today” will originate from an outdoor set between Jepson and Ryland halls in the center of campus. The public is invited to attend the broadcast as part of the outdoor audience, similar to those the program has at its home base in New York’s Rockefeller Center. No tickets or special passes are required. Normal campus parking restrictions have been lifted for the day, except for handicapped spaces and tow-away zones.

In order to complete the set-up of television equipment, the audience may arrive after 6 a.m. Camping is not permitted anywhere on the campus. The outdoor telecast is planned to occur rain or shine, so audience members should dress appropriately and not use umbrellas. Seating will not be provided. NBC reserves the right to assign audience members to stand in specific locations.

There will be no opportunity for the audience to attend the “Nightly News” telecast, which airs locally at 6:30 p.m.
