Bloomberg Businessweek names Joe Hoyle a top business professor for second time

Bloomberg Businessweek has named Joe Hoyle, professor of accounting at University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business, one of America’s favorite undergraduate business professors for the second time. The magazine selected 10 professors most often mentioned as favorites by students in a recent survey.

Hoyle also has been named “One of the 100 Most Influential Members of the Accounting Profession in the United States” by Accounting Today and the 2007 Virginia Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. Famed for his Socratic teaching style, Hoyle has received the Distinguished Educator Award at Richmond numerous times.

He is co-author of several bestselling accounting textbooks, including “Advanced Accounting” and “Financial Accounting.” He received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a M.B.A. from Appalachian State University.

Robins School Dean Nancy Bagranoff said “Many of his former students have shared with me that they never would have become accountants or passed the CPA exam were it not for Joe.”
