39th annual Candlelight Services of Lessons and Carols to be held Dec. 9; two choirs will perform

University of Richmond’s Office of the Chaplaincy and Department of Music will hold the 39th annual Candlelight Services of Lessons and Carols, Dec. 9 at 5 and 8 p.m. in Cannon Memorial Chapel.

The university’s Schola Cantorum and Women’s Chorale will present new and familiar Christmas carols and anthems in the tradition of the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols first held at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England, on Christmas Eve 1918.

University Chaplain Craig Kocher will preside over the services, ending with the congregation lighting candles and singing “Silent Night.”
