NEH presents 'Muslim Journeys Bookshelf' to Boatwright Memorial Library

February 7, 2013

University of Richmond’s Boatwright Memorial Library has received a collection of 25 books and three films titled the “Muslim Journeys Bookshelf.”

The gift is an award from the National Endowment for the Humanities for submitting a competitive application to its Bridging Cultures initiative. Richmond is one of 842 libraries nationwide, including 32 in Virginia, to receive the award.

The bookshelf includes additional materials, such as bookmarks, bookplates and posters and access to an online journal. NEH made the awards to help introduce the American public to the complex history and culture of Muslims in the United States and around the world.

The library and University Chaplaincy are planning a number of events related to the award and hope to collaborate with Faith Forum, a local organization that provides educational programs to strengthen interfaith understanding in central Virginia.
